Can't Figure out What to Get your Wife for your Anniversary?

Are you having trouble figuring out what that perfect anniversary gift would be for your wife? Do you get her the same thing year after year? Does she give you the "What could you have possibly been thinking” look? Why not really SHOCK HER this year with something extra special!!

Give her ROMANCE! - whisk her away to a romantic setting that is meant for just the two of you! A romantic getaway bed and breakfast is what many women are longing for...a place where just the two of you can reconnect, relax, and rejuvenate! But that's not all. YOU are going to plan this entire event all by yourself! That’s right! You’re going to set this up, call her boss to get her the days off, find a sitter for the children and the pets, and pack her suitcase! When YOU take care of these details, it becomes a really special anniversary gift…an event that will take her breath away with your thoughtfulness, not to speak of your creativity!

This is going to take some work on your part …and a lot of organization, -especially if your wife is the one who usually does the scheduling of your travel plans. But, rest assured my friend, YOU CAN DO IT!!

• First of all, if your wife works outside of the home, call her boss and ask if she can have some time off. Even if you are looking at just going away for the weekend, it's nice to have Friday off, too! So, give the boss a call! Let him know it’s a secret and that his assist will be greatly appreciated! With that little extra time, try the scenic route to your getaway…keep her guessing…anticipating! If it's possible to take several days off during the week, that’s even nicer! DO IT! FEEL GUILTY! SPOIL HER! So what if everyone else has to work!

• Once you have your timeframe, you can start your search for a romantic place to stay. Remember, you're looking for a place for romance…a place where there are no interruptions, no kids, and no pets…just the two of you! Whirlpools for two and fireplaces will “wow” any lady and are found in many bed and breakfasts and country inns. Be sure to ask or look for them as you search! Many of these B&Bs and Inns offer other wonderful amenities, so be sure to ask about them too! EXPECT them to provide such things as the bubbles for your double whirlpool, comfortable robes for your use, and lots of candles!A breakfast should be provided - at least continental - and other options such as in-room dining should be available. Other complimentary items such as wine or champagne and chocolates all add to the affaire d’heart as well! Ask about them! EXPECT THEM!

• Once you know the location of your stay, it’s time to make arrangement for the pets and kids! Don’t forget to remind Grandma, Cousin Billy, or Neighbor Sam that the trip is a secret and to not let on to your spouse! If the kids can keep a secret, it may be wise to let them know a little in advance of their getaway, too! They can have some fun in the planning, too!

• Ladies can be quite finicky if they don’t have their lips along! In other words, make certain you have their make-up case packed! Don’t forget to pack a few fresh clothing items in the overnighter, and if you are planning a fancy dinner, make certain you include an appropriate outfit! This is a time when your mother-in-law, sister-in-law, or your wife’s girlfriend can be very helpful! Don’t hesitate to ask for their assistance if you think you’re going to need it! These wonderful women will thank you for having included them in the surprise!

Now, be creative, and plan some time together! Remember that this is time for the two of you, and that you need time for romance! If you are to be gone several days, then go ahead and pick a few activities that BOTH of YOU will enjoy! If this is an overnighter, enjoy your suite and the relaxing amenities it has to offer. This is your romantic escape to enjoy for only a short time, so take advantage of it!

Plan some in-room or on-premise time for the two of you: Does your inn offer massages? Is there in-room dining available? Would fresh flowers add to the romance? Are flowers available through the B&B? If it’s a birthday or anniversary, are cakes available? What are the grounds like? Are there places to sit and relax, hammocks, gardens or trails to walk? Are there yard games?

Next, think of spending a small amount of time exploring the local area. The concierge at your bed and breakfast or country inn will gladly give you suggestions of local attractions. Consider things you would probably not do on the family vacation, such as horse and buggy rides, balloon rides, boat excursions, or romantic dining.

Most bed and breakfasts will assist you with any reservations that are necessary, so just ask! Do remember that things which require reservations need to be done in advance. Don’t disappoint yourself with a same day reservation that can’t be made!

Finally, decide how you will present your getaway gift to your spouse. Will you blindfold her for a lengthy car ride? Or, give her a last minute warning of “You have 5 minutes to get anything you need ‘cause we’re outta here!” Perhaps you’ll share a few details with her, but not give it all away!

However you decide to bestow this wonderful anniversary gift upon her, remember that the romance is in the spontaneity. Your wonderful efforts are about to be known… and a romantic getaway is about to evolve… with you, and now your beloved spouse, as the authors!
